Classical music recordings take a back seat as Argo issues a dozen more Shakespeare plays, gets involved with the Royal Shakespeare Company, gives a voice (in their own language) to some of the greats of European prose and poetry – and issues a lone ‘folk’ LP, Brendan Behan singing and sounding, according to a contemporary review, like a punch-drunk busker.

Spoken word in yellow, classical grey and Brendan Behan in green.

  1. Henry IV pt 1. Paul Scofield as Hotspur

  2. I don’t know if I’m in sync with you all, but I am needing help in finding the ARGO vinyl recording (2 X LPs) ZRG 5270 of Bach’s St. John Passion, (sung in English) with the Philomusica of London, King’s College, Cambridge and directed by David Willcox. I believe this was issued in 1959 – followed by a later version in 1960 by ARGO/DECCA/LONDON.

I would be very grateful for your help.

    Best wishes,

    David Cooper.
